Be a Community Impact Volunteer

Each year, trained volunteers review, score, and make funding recommendations on every application that MSA United Way receives.

Volunteers are the core of all that we do here at United Way, and we’re looking for people to join our application review team.

As a United Way volunteer, you help make a difference in your community by ensuring that effective, high performing community programs continue their success through the sound investment of funds, entrusted to us.

Responsibilities:

  • Training: Reviewers must attend our in-person session or webinar to learn more about United Way funding strategies and evaluation methods. (approx. 1 hour)
  • Review Applications: Volunteers are assigned 5-10 program applications to thoughtfully review and score according to pre-determined criteria. (approx. 1 hour per application)
  • Funding Review Committee Meeting: Reviewers discuss programs they reviewed, share questions and concerns, and make funding recommendations to the Community Impact Committee (approx. 2 hours)
  • Site Visits: Reviewers team with board members and United Way volunteers to meet with agency staff and get a firsthand look at the programs applying for funding. (approx. 45 min. per visit)
