Brief
History
In 1927, the Community Chest was formed in Mandan. Then, in 1988 the
Missouri Slope Areawide United
Way was formed to included Mandan and Bismarck. At
that time the MSA United
Way raised about $549,000, present day they provide
funding for 75 programs in the local area to help people in our community and
raise a little more than $1,400,000. Recently, in 2009 MSA United Way
partnered with the Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to bring free books into
the home of area children under the age of five. MSA United Way is
seeking funding for this initiative to be able to expand the program. Although
the program is free to the children there are costs for shipping which are paid
monthly through grants and target funding.
